The Columbus Lady Cardinals made history last season making it all the way to the semi-final round of the playoffs.
This team was easily one of the best team’s in the state last season too and this year their are looking to be even better.
Looking at last season, the Lady Cards were very deep with the amount of talent they had. Having Karlee Mathis helped a ton, she was the lone senior on the team and her ability to be a high-level pitcher and also be one of the best hitters in the district will be missed.
It’s tough when a team loses its seniors because there is no way to replace them. Most teams lose anywhere from three to five seniors, so they take a huge hit to their lineup.
The good news for the Lady Cards is, they are only losing one senior, and seven of those 13 returners are entering their senior year, and they are expecting to go even deeper in the playoffs this year.
Taylor Morrow, Abby Wiggs, Ella Berger, Elli Brown, Mia Post, Sophia Wolters and Molly Garcia are all the returning seniors this season. Fans who kept up with the team last season can recognize these names quickly because they all played major roles in the Lady Cards playoff run last year and they are looking to do it again this year.
Allie Cranek, Presley and Peyton Drozd, Kaylea Foster, Katlyn Torres and Aggie Rodriguez are all underclassmen that are returning to the team as well. They know what is expected of them, they know that they have to step up and help carry the load and be a good example for the five incoming freshmen.
Emma Beauchamp, Trinity Hopkins, Averie Miller, Demi Roecker and McKenna Eden are all the freshman joining the Lady Cards this season. They will be looking to make a good impression in their first year and with the surplus of leadership on the team, they are in good hands.
The Lady Cards have played in a few scrimmages so far to get ready for the season but will open the season against East Bernard on Monday, Feb. 20, on the road.
