Rock Island Full Gospel Church hosting annual Camp Meeting through Feb. 8 The Rock Island Full Gospel Church began its annual Camp Meeting on Monday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m., with the program to commence through Saturday, Feb. 8.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Guest ministers, singers and missionaries coming from seven different states as well as from Mexico and Kenya. Visitors will stay in local homes, campers, motels and Splashway cabins.

Meals will be served. The Bible will be preached, fellowship will be abounded as we search together for God’s guidance in our lives. Everyone is welcome to attend any or all services.

St. Paul United Methodist Church to celebrate 159th anniversary

St. Paul United Methodist Church, located on 916 Fannin St. in Columbus will be celebrating their 159th church anniversary on Sunday, Feb. 23.

The program will begin at 2 p.m. with the theme of “The Power of Prayer” from First Thessalonians 5:17.

Rev. James L. Bryant, Pastor will begin services, followed by the guest speaker for the afternoon will be Overseer Dr. Diane Carter of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, under the leadership of Bishop Marsha Walters.

Colorado County Black History Banquet to take place Feb. 15

The 2nd annual Colorado County Black History Month Banquet will take place next Saturday, Feb. 15 at the St. Paul Lutheran Light House on 201 Veterans Drive, located in Columbus.

The event will kick off at 6 p.m. The theme of the event will be “African Americans and Labor.”

HCSO Junior Mounted Posse to ride through Weimar and Columbus Feb. 15 The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Junior Mounted Posse will be galloping through Columbus, Weimar and Hallettsville next Saturday, Feb. 15, spreading the word about the 92nd Annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Celebrating their 73rd anniversary, the rides will begin at 9:30 a.m. in Columbus at the Colorado Courthouse and will continue through at 11:30 a.m. at Weimar City Hall and 3:30 p.m. at the Hallettsville Lavaca County Courthouse.

The junior deputies range in age from six to 18. The Posse, in its 73rd year, is the oldest youth riding group in the state of Texas.

Attendees will line up in Weimar along Main St. In front of Hill Bank and the HB Pavillion to welcome the cowgirls into town.

The Weimar Chamber of Commerce and Weimar Volunteer Fire Department have partnered with the Weimar Police Department to provide a hot meal and hot drinks for the riders, their handlers and escorts.

The Junior Deputies will present the City of Weimar and its officials with a proclamation and a signed Pony Express relay baton as a thank you for allowing them to stop in Weimar to deliver the message of the upcoming Rodeo Houston events.

There will also be a petting zoo for all to enjoy in Weimar.

Rock Island VFD “SUPER MEGA B-I-N-G-O” set for Feb. 8

The Rock Island Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting their SUPER MEGA B-I-N-G-O event on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Rock Island VFD New Event Center at 2710 Niles St.

Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. Drinks and food will be available in the kitchen. All children must have a paid receipt.

First session with pull-tab maniaat4p.m. Second session will begin at 5 p.m. The third session will start at 6:30 p.m.

$15,000 in cash payouts will be given out to winners.

Payouts are: Party Animal, $20 each card A: $1,000 B: $1,000 C: $1,000 D: $1,000 E: $1,000 $5,000 total coverall ticket. Double action $1,199 game ($10 each sheet) Four $950 games, $20 all you can play 12 pack paper for the second and third session. $80 to pay all three sessions.

Grab your friends and family and come out to have some fun, laugh and yell out B-I-N-G-O with us and help raise funds for our fire department and other non-profits the VFD donates to.
