The Rice Raiders and Lady Raiders soccer team both won one of their last two games to keep them both at, or above .500 for the season.
The Lady Raiders have five wins and five losses, with three ties, while the boys are well above .500 with seven wins, three losses, and two ties.
Lady Raiders In their last two games the Lady Raiders took on Hallettsville and Columbus, with both games being played on the Lady Raiders home field.
In their first game against Hallettsville, it was a bit of a struggle for the offense to get going and find their legs. Hallettsville did not waste time either and they took advantage of the Lady Raiders’ slow start and established an early lead.
The Lady Raiders offense was able to find the back of the net once before the match ended but Hallettsville came away with the win. The Lady Raiders had to put that game in the rear-view mirror though and focus up for their game against Columbus.
Against Columbus the Lady Raiders offense had a much better start and they scored the first goal of the game. The Lady Raiders found the back of the net once more while giving up one goal to Columbus to finish out their two-game stretch with a 1-1 record.
Raiders
Like the Lady Raiders, the Raiders matched up against Hallettsville and Columbus in their last two games.
The Raiders took on Hallettsville first and they jumped all over their division rival as soon as the game started. The Raiders high-flying offense went right to work and overwhelmed the Hallettsville defense.
They had a 2-1 lead after the first half and the second half was more of the same. The Raiders scored three more goals int he second half, but Hallettsville scored twice to make things interesting.
The Raiders were able to hang on though and walked away with a 5-3 win over Hallettsville.
In their game against Columbus, it was a bit tighter of a game on the offensive side. The game ended in a 0-0 tie as both teams’ defenses played outstanding to give the fans in attendance their money’s worth.
