The Columbus Cardinals are on a winning streak and have extended it to five games after two big district wins.

The Cards defeated both Hallettsville and Palacios in back-to-back games to move themselves into 3rd place in the district.

Vs. Hallettsville, 69-57, W The Cards got things started against District rival Hallettsville and they jumped all over the Cards after the opening tip-off.

The Cards fell behind in the first quarter and Hallettsville held onto a 21-11 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter the Cards flipped the script on Hallettsville and scored 21 points and held Hallettsville to only 10.

So, with a 32- 31 lead at halftime, the second half was going to be exciting because this was a rivalry game after all.

The third quarter the teams both scored 14 points to keep it a onepoint lead for the Cards going into the fourth. Columbus’ defense only allowed Hallettsville to score 12 points while their offense scored 23 points on their way to a victory.

Grayson Rigdon led the way on offense with 28 points and seven rebounds, while Camdon Pitchford scored 12 points and had 10 assists in the win. The Cards enjoyed their win but quickly shifted focus to their game against Palacios.

@ Palacios, 76-62, W Against Palacios, the Cards continued to buzz around the court on the offensive side of the floor. They jumped out to an early lead against Palacios with Rigdon and Pitchford both poring on the points.

Brody Tribe and Rylan Carruthers also did their job winning the rebounding battle for the Cards. It was a recipe for another win and the Cards made sure to cash in.

Now Palacios kept things close, they may be a struggling team, but they are relentless and play their systems well. So, they were able to keep the game close, but the Cards ran away with the score late in the fourth to finish the game.

The Cards will be looking to stack even more wins up as their push to the playoffs continues on Tuesday, Feb. 4, against Yoakum.

Grayson Rigdon had a big game against Hallettsville where he scored 28 points.
