Two murder trials amongst docket
The Colorado County Courthouse will be a packed place over the course of the week, with multiple jury trials, including two murder cases, having begun this past Monday, Jan. 27.
Ethan Lee Dulany and Roxana Gonzalez, both of Eagle Lake, moved forward with their jury trials after years of deliberation from both parties, the involved legal counsels, court representatives and Colorado County officials.
Dulany, one of three allegedly involved in the 2021 Columbus murder of Keaton Devlin Hancock, is the last to appear in court for trial.
The two other suspects in the case, Jose “Joey” Casanova and Cairo Ruvalcaba, were both found guilty of murder in separate trials in the early months of 2024.
County prosecutors argued at Casanova and Ruvalcaba’s trials that Hancock’s killing led to the retaliatory murder of Jonathon Segura, a fellow Eagle Lake resident, merely an hour following the initial shooting involving Hancock, according to an article written by the Citizen earlier in the year.
Dante Larenz Stevens, of Garwood, was found guilty of capital murder in relation to Segura’s death and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in Oct. 2024.
In addition to the murder charge, Dulany is also facing an aggravated robbery charge and a theft of property charge.
Gonzalez, the other indicted individual currently under trial, is accused of intentionally shooting and murdering her husband, Alfredo Gonzalez, at their home on September 24, 2022.
Her trial will see a Spanish interpreter present.
In addition, John Kevin Robinson, of League City, will also be under trial, charged with theft of property between $2,500 and $30,000 and misapplication of fiduciary property or property of financial institution between $2,500 and $30,000.
Judge William D. Old III will preside over the trials mentioned.
