Columbus VFD host county wide training

The Columbus Volunteer Fire Department held a county-wide training on Saturday, Jan. 25, involving multiple departments across the county. The training was led by the Cy-Fair Fire Department, who volunteered their free time to share their expertise. Firefighters from Columbus, Oakridge, and Frelsburg departments participated in this invaluable session.

The training focused on mastering the basics of tactical movements, search and rescue techniques, victim drags, nozzle work, and firefighter CPR—focusing on how to quickly remove a firefighter from full gear to perform life-saving measures. These critical skills are essential to ensuring the safety of both our firefighters and the communities we serve.

The Cy-Fair firefighters dedicate their training to their Deputy Chief, John Hawkins, who tragically lost his life in an off-duty motor vehicle accident in 2022. Their commitment to sharing knowledge and improving firefighter safety is a heartfelt tribute to his legacy of service and dedication.

The CVFD extend their deepest gratitude to our instructors for their dedication and all the firefighters who took part in this collaborative effort to enhance our knowledge. Opportunities like this not only strengthen our skills but also remind us of the bonds that unite us as one fire service family.
