YOUTH & EDUCATION

Catholic School’s Week began last Sunday, with this year’s theme, “Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community.” One way SAS students and staff unite in faith is by praying together daily for different individuals and groups during morning announcements.

The SAS school communit y recognizes Christ as the foundation for Catholic education in its school motto (also recited daily): “Be it known to all who enter here that Christ is the reason for this school.”

This year’s Catholic Schools Week service project is the “Culton’s Corner Book Drive” in memory of former teacher, Donna Culton. New books are being collected from SAS families and will be donated to the children at Sacred Heart Catholic School of Uvalde and Uvalde CISD.

Campus will unite tomorrow at the ever-popular Catholic Schools Week Field Day. Twelve teams will square off in lots of fun games and activities, followed by an ice cream party and a pep rally to close out the day. After Mass on Friday, “Super Saints” will enjoy watching their peers in a talent show before watching a superhero movie in the gym. Early release will be at Noon (no lunch served).

Last week, SAS 4th graders went field tripping to the Funtastik Stem Lab where they got a hands-on experience that combines science and art. Students especially loved the volcano and the fog machine.

On Saturday, Jan. 18, local families actively demonstrated their support for the value of human life by participating in the annual Walk for Life march in Columbus. The march began at Industry State Bank and ended at the courthouse.

Basketball teams are still competing. Both B teams will travel to Immanuel Lutheran in Giddings for a tournament taking place this Friday and Saturday. On Tues., Feb. 4, the A teams will head to Bellville to take on Faith Academy.

The SAS Gala, “Bubbles and Bling” will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Columbus Hall. Enjoy an evening of cocktails, dinner, dancing and auction events. Tickets are $50 per guest and are available from SAS students or in the SAS front office.

Reserved tables with prime seating (and special amenities) for 8 are also available for purchase as well as tax deductible sponsorships of the event. For more information, contact the school office at 979-7325505.

Upcoming events: Early Release at 12:00 p.m. on Jan. 31. SAS Gala on Feb. 22. SAS welcomes all to attend Children’s Mass on Fridays at 8:15 a.m.

“The counsel of the LORD belongs to the faithful; the covenant instructs them.” [PS 25:14]
