MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS

LA GRANGE – Feb.12 marks Red Door Day for Mental Health, a day dedicated to normalizing conversations about mental health in rural communities.

Hosted by the Greater Fayette Community Foundation (GFCF) and the Red Door Fund, this event calls on individuals, businesses, schools, and organizations to be a beacon of hope by participating in the Red Door Decorating Contest.

Being a part of the Change Red Door Day is more than an event; it’s a movement. Every decorated door or driveway becomes a symbol of support for mental health awareness in rural Central Texas.

How to participate:

1. Decorate: your door or driveway with a red theme to symbolize your commitment to mental health awareness.

2. Share: your creation on social media with a message of encouragement and the hashtags #RedDoor25 and #BeARedDoor.

3. Care: for your neighbors by checking in on them, sharing resources, and creating safe spaces for open conversations.

Join the Contest Post a photo of your decorated door or other mental health-themed decorations on social media using the hashtags #Red-Door25 and #BeARedDoor.

Winners in the Individual, Business, and Organization categories will be announced in March as “Mental Health Advocates of the Year,” and will receive steaks from HeartBrand Beef and featured online and in local newspapers.

“Get Your Supplies” Red Door Day yard signs are available at designated EMS locations throughout Fayette and Colorado Counties for a free-will donation. Additionally, “And Then,” a Schulenburg- based nonprofit, will once again be selling new door hangers.

Alternatively, if you have an old hanger that needs a refresh, bring it to their location, and they’ll fix it up for you. For more details, visit their website at www. andthenanewday.com/be-ared- door.

Why participate? “Mental health is essential to creating safer, more connected rural communities. By participating in Red Door Day, you are helping break the stigma and offering vital support to those in need,” says Cheryl Pekar, GFCF President and Red Door Fund Chair.
