Lady Raiders lose to Industrial

The Rice Lady Raiders once again felt the sting of defeat after they lost to Industrial 47-22 on Monday.

The Lady Raiders put themselves in a hole early on and head coach Reagan Beal said that was one of the biggest factors in their defeat.

“We have to limit the amount of points team score in the first quarter,” Beal said. “Over the last four games I think it has been 17, 18, 19, 20 points, it’s been a high number. If we limited that first quarter, and I think we will be alright.”

Limiting points early in the game is a tough lesson to learn his is one of the lessons every team has to learn. It can be frustrating to learn these hard lessons especially for a young team which the Lady Raiders are.

The good news is they are actually welcoming these hard lessons and tough losses because they are so hungry to get better.

“They are always improving; we only have one win this year, but these girls are coming to practice with good attitudes and at the end of the day we are improving,” Beal said. “Over the last three games our defense has improved, I know the score does not reflect it, but I tell them if we get stops on defense it will lead to points, and we are slowly starting to piece it all together and they are constantly improving.”

With only one win on their record this season it can be easy for the team to go through the motions just to finish out the season, but Beal said Beautiful Johnson’s leadership has helped keep the team engaged and excited about the season.

“She is important in every aspect of the game, both on and off the court, I think she came out once tonight and that was so we can actually give her a rest,” Beal said. “Her body is tired, she is always out there, without her nothing would be able to function.”

The Lady Raiders have two more games on their schedule left against Yoakum and Edna. With only two games left the Lady Raiders will be looking to put together everything they learned this season to pick up their second win of the year before their season is over.
