Columbus gravel company expanding The Columbus Gravel Company, which has been operating a bit at Alleyton for the past several months has made arrangements to open a new location about a mile east of that point, to work out one of the riches deposits in this section.
The Eclipse Pickle company after contracts The Texas Pickle & Preserve Co., of Rock Island are making farmers of this section of the country to enter into contracts to plant cucumbers and sell them to that company. The company agrees to pay three dollars per hundred pounds for the crop produced for sizes up to four inches and a dollar per hundred for larger sizes.
Columbus Tot chosen. Mascot of Legislature Little Margaret Frances, the four year old daughter of Representative and Mrs. Joa. V Frnka of this city, has been signally honored by the Thirty Ninth Legislature, now in session by being elected mascot of the house.
Building at Garwood A.N. Evans and force are building two houses in Harwood for Wm Lehrer and have the work well under way. W.M. Paulson and force are at work there this week putting on the metal shingle roofs.

Hold over officers for the total force of Maccabees are K. Brandon, Commander and Ben Rauth, Secretary Treasurer. No election was held this year.

Elizondo Employee of the Year Honored at Chamber Banquet Gilbert El izondo, an employee of Harder Truck Lines for 9 years, was awarded the chamber of commerce’s Employee of the Year Award last week. El izondo was selected for the honor by a secret chamber committee from a list of 17 employees nominated by employers, fellow employees, friends and customers.
Gravel Worker, A Father of 8, Is Drown Victim A 38-year-old father of 8 drowned Tuesday afternoon at the Marion * Marion Gravel Co. Site in Eagle Lake, Deputy Bryan Toucheck reported. The victim, Guadalupe Perez of Eagle Lake, was last seen by his coworkers about 3:50 p.m. when he was instructed by a supervisor to move the company boat back to the plant.
School Board is Meeting on Reading Plan The Columbus school board was scheduled to meet is a special session 7:30 p.m. Thursday is the high school to decide whether to implement a “right to read” program here.
Sunnyside Up? Not Eggs-actly
A semi-trailer truck loaded with eggs was scrambled and friend in an accident on I-10 about 2 miles east of Columbus Wednesday, Jan. 15. The whole thing ended Sunnyside up for the driver who miraculously escaped serious injury despite a leap from the frying pan into the fire, or vice versa.
Homes Tour Opens Drive for Members The Magnolia Homes Tour Inc. Will hold its 1975 active membership drive Feb. 3-7 at the Columbus State Bank, the First State Bank and the U.S. Post Office. The membership committee will have volunteers at these locations each day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the exception of the post office.
