The Columbus Lady Cards are officially in the postseason after winning in eight of their final ten games to end the season. Their hard work paid off as their second-place finish to Bay City marked the highest spot in the district rankings Columbus has ever reached by the end of the regular season. After suffering their second loss to Bay City on March 3, the Lady Cards handled business against Calhoun and then again against Wharton as they secured the history-making mark and shifted their focus to the state playoffs.

The Lady Cards got their first victory of the week with a close, 1-0 win against Calhoun. They got an opportunity to show off their defensive prowess as it was their 12th opponent that they have held to a shutout. Aranza Ramirez provided the winning goal.

Columbus’ scoring attack got the spotlight in the following game against Wharton during a 4-0 blowout to end the season. The Lady Cards’ senior night performance went as well as they could have hoped as they not only held another clean sheet defensively, but they also got a final feel of what it is like when the offense is rolling before they try to recreate the victory in the first round of the playoffs. Ramirez scored once again along with Scarlett McClelland and Karina Rubio who had two goals for the brace.
