LADYCATS AND WILDCATS BASKETBALL
Weimar HS dominates Ganado in Jan. 17 district play
The Weimar Ladycats and Wildcats both took on Ganado on Friday, Jan. 17, where they both walked away with victories.
The most important thing about these wins is that they are district wins, and at this point in the season that is a huge win for both these teams as they push for a playoff spot.
LADYCATS-GANADO, W, 48-20 The Ladycats have been an interesting team all season long, they have been a little up and down this season, but they are starting to get some more consistent play.
The position that struggled early on in the season was their guards. Clarie Pavlu, Tate Griffin, J’Len Conn, MJ Griffin and Zariah Sims all struggled at some point in the year, and it leaves them with an overall record of 16-10.
But since they have gotten out of tournament play, they have been very consistent and confident. They look sharper on the offensive side of the ball and are facilitating plays at a much better rate.
The guards worked out of their funk just in time for the district schedule and because their play has gotten better the Ladycats have a 5-2 record in district and recently just beat a district opponent by 28-points. With the guards elevating their play the Ladycats are in a great spot to lock up a playoff spot in the coming weeks.
WILDCATS-GANADO, W, 41-37 While the girls cruised to a 28-point win the boys’ game was a lot closer. The Wildcats were able to come away with a four-point win over Ganado and improve their district record to 4-2.
This game was going to be tight as the Wildcats are still laying down some of their foundation to build their program. They are also coming off a stretch of three district games where they posted a 1-2 record so they were looking to bounce back.
Ganado was not just going to roll over and give the Wildcats the win though and kept things close. The Wildcats leaned heavily on their upperclassmen who all played a ton of minutes to try and close out the game.
The Wildcats were able to hold on to their four-point lead and keep themselves in the playoff race.
With the season coming down to the wire now with only a handful of game left the Wildcats will be looking to build on this win when they take on Schulenburg in their next game.
