The Rice Raiders soccer team is starting to sink their teeth into the season as they took on Hempstead and Luling this past week.
The Raiders dropped their game to Hempstead and then bounced back with a big win over Luling.
Vs. Hempstead, L, 1-0 In their first game this week the Raiders welcomed in Hempstead for a pre-district game. This game allows both teams to iron out any kinks in their system with the outcome effecting their district record.
Despite this the outcome sti l l affects the team’s overall record, both teams understood this, and they came out in this game with a sense of urgency.
Hempstead was able to score the lone goal in the contest as the Raiders high flying and speedy offense searched for a response. They are still seeing players just a second too late and Hempstead was able to shut them down because of that.
The defense also played a strong game against Hempstead despite giving up one goal. They remained aggressive and sniffed out any opportunity the Hempstead offense might have had late in the game.
It was a rough loss, but the Raiders remained confident in their group and went right back to work on Friday looking for another win.
VS. LULING, W, 3-1
The Raiders offense knew they were better than last game’s shutout and against Luling they bounced back.
The Raiders offense kicked home three goals against Lul ing to put themselves back into the win column. The offense moved the ball much more effectively and used their speed perfectly to break away from defenders for clear looks at the net.
On top of that the defense again gave up one goal but they continued to be on their toes and play aggressive and push the ball back down the field so their offense can do their damage.
The Raiders will be back in action against Calhoun in their first district game of the season.
