COLUMBUS — The Columbus Chamber of Commerce and the Columbus Bicentennial Committee invites the public to help plant trees to celebrate Columbus’ 200th birthday.
Schobels’ Tree Farm and the city will plant six Live Oak trees at Mid-Town Park in downtown Columbus. The tree dedication will be Saturday, April 22, at 11 a.m. A color guard will present the flags, followed by the singing of the National Anthem, invocation, ribbon cutting, and light refreshments.
“We are so excited to host ‘Trees for the Future – In honor of the past!’ as part of the year-long Bicentennial Celebration, and we look forward to seeing everyone there,” said Janet Hollmann, Chamber events director.
Residents can donate towards the Bicentennial project in memory of or in honor of a loved one. Each tree will have a stone marker with names and honorees for generations to enjoy, according to a release. Residents may also contribute towards the Veteran’s Tree, Law Enforcement Tree, Volunteer Fire Department Tree, Emergency Medical Services Tree, and one of two Loved One’s Tree. The Chamber said each name will be listed for a donation of $100 that will help offset the cost of the trees and markers.
The city will maintain the trees, according to a release. The Chamber said it appreciates the city’s time and effort to make the project possible. To purchase a memorial, contact the Chamber of Commerce at 979-732-8385 or visit their office in the Stafford Opera House, 425 Spring St.
