Upcoming school board, city elections

Various county school board and city positions are up for contention this year, with the first day to file for a place on the general election ballots being Wednesday, Jan. 15.

The last day to file for a place on the general election ballot will be Friday, Feb. 14 at 5 p.m.

School board positions up for election are: Columbus ISD

Board of Trustees positions (three), currently held by: Board Secretary Dorothy Wostarek, Board Member June Schobel and Board Member Ryan Thomas.

Rice CISD

Board of Trustees positions (two), currently held by: President Jason Pausewang, Position 4 and Secretary Bridget Belman, Position 5.

Weimar ISD

Board of Trustees positions (three), currently held by: President Steve Williams, Board Member Joni Van Houten and Board Member Jeremy Maupin.

City positions up for election are

Columbus

Mayor: currently held by Lori An Gobert.

Place 1: currently held by Keith Cummings.

Place 2: currently held by Ronny Daley.

Weimar

Place 1: currently held by Becky Roberts Place 3: currently held by Roy Ulrich Place 5: currently held by Kurt Scardino.

Eagle Lake

The seats of councilmen Rene Cooper, Jim Wood and Chris Parker are contested.

Election day will be held on Saturday, May 3. The last day to register to vote will be Thursday, April 3, with early voting beginning on Tuesday, April 22 and ending on Tuesday, April 29. The last day to apply for a ballot by mail will also be Tuesday, April 22.
