Don’t you just love to hear and re-tell the stories of those you know who came before you? That experience is waiting for you at the Weimar Public Library.
Friends of the Weimar Library will host Elaine Thomas with her newest volume of stories we all enjoy reading on Friday, Jan. 24 at 10:00 a.m.
“Stories I’ve Been Told— Vol. 4” is a read that will take you straight to the heart of the past through the eyes of those who were there.
This volume’s focus is Fayette County in the midto late twentieth century, profiling 30 rural Texans (some you may know or remember). The struggles and successes recounted in this new volume of work bring into sharp focus the honest, hardworking and strongly independent nature of the people who populate the Lone Star state.
Thomas documents narratives that range from first-person experience war accounts to family tales of the long past. The reader will experience a gauntlet of emotions revealed in the stories retold here, emotions that tear at us and endure because they are true and real.
Thomas’ presentation will confirm that great stories are often found in the quiet neighbors next door, the raucous family gatherings, and moments encompassed in sadness that we have all experienced.
Award-winning writer Elaine Thomas is the author of six non-fiction Texas and two Canadian books. Born in Calgary, Canada, Elaine grew up on a small farm and graduated from SAIT Polytechnic’s journalism program in Calgary. Elaine spent her corporate career in public relations and communications with a major Houston energy company before running her own communication business from the farm near Holman where she and her husband Emil reside.
Besides presenting Stories I’ve Been Told – Vol. 4, Thomas will share some ideas and insight for capturing and preserving your own life stories or those of someone you love.
