Columbus Texas Lions Club host “Winter Coat Drive” The Columbus Texas Lions Club are hosting a “Winter Coat Drive” on Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Methodist Church Family Life Center at 9 a.m.

The last day to make donations will be on Thursday, Jan. 16.

The Lions Club will be taking new or gently used coats that can be dropped off at the following locations: KULM Radio Station, Stafford Opera House, Columbus State Bank, Industry State Bank and the Farmers Insurance Office.

Eagle Lake Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet set for Jan. 25 Save the date. The Eagle Lake Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet will take place Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Eagle Lake Chamber of Commerce building located on 303 E Main St.

The banquet will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Eagle Lake Chamber of Commerce. Tickets will be $35 while a table of 8 will cost $300.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with a happy hour starting at 6:30 p.m., dinner beginning at 7 p.m. and a keynote speaker at 7:30 p.m.

James E. Brasher, author of “11 Days on the Colorado,” will be the special guest speaker for the night.

A silent auction and a 50/50 raffle will take place. BYOB set-ups are available as well.

Seed Exchange Event for National Seed Day The “Seed Exchange” event for National Seed Day will take place Saturday, Jan. 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Please register to attend by completing this online form, www.tinyurl. com/seed-exch-signup or call Wanda at 713-628-6545.

In observance of National Seed Day, the Sprout to Share Seed Library will host a seed exchange. Bring your collected seeds or store-purchased seeds for veggies, herbs, and edible or companion planting flowers.

Seeds in bulk bags or envelopes are welcome. There is no need to package your saved seeds into smaller packets. Learn more about the types of seeds to bring and how the seed exchange will work at tinyurl.com/ seed-swap-details.

The Bluebonnet Master Gardeners invite you to plan your spring garden along with them at two free public events with their Sprout to Share Free Seed Library. Residents of Austin, Colorado, Fayette, Lavaca, and Wharton Counties are welcome to register and attend these free events.

The events will be held at Create Space Studio, 717 Walnut St, in Columbus. Though Create Space has closed its doors, the Seed Library events will be held there in January. Watch for announcements of a new seed library location on their Facebook group: https://fb.com/groups/ sprouttoshare.

“Turtle Wing Toast” coming up Jan. 23

The Turtle Wing Foundation’s annual Toast event is slated for Thursday, Jan. 23 at Sengelmann Hall (upstairs) in Schulenburg.

Doors open and cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m. with hors’devours and a cash bar. The program begins at 7 p.m. The Turtle Wing Toast is a free event where all are welcome.

The event’s continued theme is to “Remember, Rejoice, Renew” and remember how we started, rejoiced in our accomplishments, and renewed our mission for the new year.

This year’s program is “Faith, Hope, Turtle Wing” and will feature a testimonial by Kadee Hoffman - Speech Therapist, Turtle Wing Board Member, and parent, as well as a performance by the famous Dancing Turtles.

The Toast provides a way for Turtle Wing staff, board, donors, volunteers, providers, supporters and even those who may be unfamiliar but want to learn more about the foundation to come together in celebration. The event will conclude at 8 p.m. Come join, no RSVPS or tickets necessary.
