A CRY HEARD ALL AROUND COLUMBUS

Columbus Community Hospital delivers first baby of the year

The Columbus Community Hospital delivered the first baby of the year, Dylan Mateo Mendez- Medina, on New Year’s Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Mendez-Medina was born 7 lbs. and 12 oz, measuring at 20.24 inches to mother Seylin Yamileth Medina-Osorio and Father Maer De Jesus Mendez-Bentacourt.

The hospital serves all of Colorado County and beyond, given that it is the only facility within a 45-mile radius that delivers babies.

“With more and more rural hospitals ceasing labor and delivery operations, Columbus Community Hospital stands out in our commitment not only to maintaining these services but investing in the personnel and resources to achieve level-ofcare designations and advance our capabilities,” said James Vanek, CEO, Columbus Community Hospital. “We are honored to welcome Dylan as the first baby of 2025 and to celebrate this milestone with his parents.”
