Q&A with Colorado County’s newest deputies
Colorado County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Alexander Chapa Q: Tell me a general summary about yourself. What hobbies do you enjoy? Where are you from? How old are you? What is your ethnic background? What’s your educational background? What is your family like? (any spouses or children?) A: My name is Alexander Chapa. I enjoy fishing and hunting and like to draw during my free time. Originally, I’m from Houston and moved to the area almost 2 years ago. I am 24 years old. I graduated high school in 2019 and took some college classes after that, and I am from a real close family.
Q: Any previous positions in law enforcement?
A: This is my first job in law enforcement with zero previous experience. I graduated from the Wharton County Jr. Police Academy recently.
Q: What made you decide to become a police officer? What was your journey like to become one?
A: I decided to become a police officer because it is something I have been interested in since a kid, especially with the investigation side of Law Enforcement. The start of my Law Enforcement journey began in High school as I enrolled into a criminal justice program. After High school I attended some college classes before I attended the police academy in Wharton. I graduated from the police academy, then applied to the Colorado County Sheriff’s Office.
Q: What do you hope to accomplish as part of the Colorado County Sheriff’s Office? What do you believe you can bring to the team?
A: I hope to be more involved in the community and get to know it better and bring to the team my own personal experience.
Q: Anything you’d want the residents of Colorado County to know? About you or how you plan on doing your job?
A: My first goal in the job will be putting the citizens of the county first to help where I am needed.
Colorado County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Cullen Machac Q: Tell me a general summary about yourself. What hobbies do you enjoy? Where are you from? How old are you? What is your ethnic background? What’s your educational background? What is your family like? (any spouses or children?) A: I am 27 years old. I grew up in Schulenburg. In 2017 I joined the United States Marine Corps as an intelligence specialist. I have two girls and two boys. I am expecting another child in March of 2025.
Q: Any previous positions in law enforcement?
A: In 2020 I worked in the Victoria County Jail. In 2023 I worked for the Seguin Police Department. I have a little over two years of law enforcement experience.
Q: What made you decide to become a police officer? What was your journey like to become one?
A: After getting out of the Marine Corps I wanted to do my part and help others that could not help themselves. The best occupation for me to accomplish that was going into law enforcement.
Q: What do you hope to accomplish as part of the Colorado County Sheriff’s Office? What do you believe you can bring to the team?
A: I want to continue becoming the best peace officer I could be. I want to continue learning as much as I possibly can. I believe my knowledge and experience from both the Marine Corps and law enforcement could be shared with others to help move this department forward in the future. This would help keep the county safe and continue to allow the citizens to have the peace of mind that law enforcement is here to help.
Q: Anything you’d want the residents of Colorado County to know? About you or how you plan on doing your job?
A: I would like the county residents to know that if they ever see me in public, I will gladly hear any issues or problems that they may have. I will always be an open book with an abundance of knowledge that I am willing to share.
