EAGLE LAKE — Residents looking for services catered to older adults can find a solution from Rice Medical Center’s Lighthouse program.
Odette Elliston, LCSW and Denise Sklar, spoke before the Eagle Lake Noon Lions Club on March 9 about “Lighthouse Eagle Lake,” the Geriatric Intensive Outpatient Program provided by Rice Medical Center. Elliston serves as director and Skylar serves as assessment coordinator of the program, which they say is designed specifically for older adults who may be overwhelmed with the process of aging.
The staff also said the Lighthouse is for older adults in the community who are struggling with depression, anxiety, grief, psychosis or other emotional or behavioral difficulties. According to a release, the Lighthouse is a beacon of hope during the rough waters of aging, providing caring, compassionate and supportive services.
The program features group therapy four days per week filled with information, coping skills, and positive hands-on activities. Also included is individual and/or family therapy, oversight and medication management by a board-certified psychiatrist, safe and compassionate care by a team of providers and nutritious meals.
Lighthouse RMC, supported by traditional Medicare, accepts referrals from physicians, family members, organizations caring for older adults and self-referrals. For more information or to make a referral, call 979-232-7095.
