Adam Schobel Named
Mr. Texas Football
Adam Schobel, the Columbus Cardinals starting quarterback, was named Mr. Texas Football by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.
Adam finished the year completing 214 of his 290 pass attempts this season (74%) for 3,743 yards, 54 touchdowns and three interceptions.
“It’s an honor to win this award, so many great players have won it before, so obviously it was really cool,” Adam Schobel said. “But the thing that was most exciting was being able to go out on top with our team.”
The Cardinals faced a ton of adversity this year with the typical highs and lows of a football season, injuries that piled up and of course the loss of Aleks Medrano. All these factors galvanized the team and it was something Adam Schobel took note of this season.
“I would not have won this award if it wasn’t for my teammates, I give all the credit to them,” Adam Schobel said. “This award goes to our whole team not just any individual.”
His head coach and father, Matt Schobel also had high praise for the team even though it was his own son that won the award.
“It’s hard to put it all on one individual after everything we have been through this year. He’s my son so it’s a special thing from a dad’s standpoint. But I am just so proud of all the kids and our team for everything we accomplished this season.” Matt Schobel said.
Matt Schobel also pointed out the Hitchcock loss as a point in the season where the team really came together.
“After the Hitchcock loss, it has been everything towards the team,” Matt Schobel said. “That sounds crazy but with that loss we were kind of able to hit the reset button and really come together and make a strong push.”
Both Adam and Matt Schobel credited the team, but Adam also acknowledged just how important his coach and dad had been to him this entire journey.
“He has taught me everything about the game since I was a little kid. In our last season together, to be able to go out on top like that and win a State Championship for our town, it’s one of those moments you never forget.” Adam Schobel said.
With Adam Schobel being named Mr. Texas Football, the 2024 football season comes to a conclusion, with the Columbus Cardinals football team leaving a big impact on it.
