The Wildcats are heading into 2025 on a high note with both a positive overall record and a positive district record.
The Wildcats currently have a record of 8-6 overall and a 1-0 record in district after they defeated Schulenburg 48-38 on Friday, Dec. 20.
Games between Schulenburg and Weimar are always intense and this one was no different. It’s no secret these two are district rivals so any time they match up together a victory just means a little bit more.
The Wildcats’ head coach Jacob Rehak has said that they are building something in Weimar and after last Friday’s victory, it’s hard to tell him he’s wrong.
Understandably so, a coach has full right to be confident in his team but with Rehak and the Wildcats, something is genuinely different. The players themselves seem more bought in this season thanks to a good number of last year’s players returning.
It’s much easier for a coach to get his message across to players when they have been there for a year and understand what is expected. With not a whole lot lost to graduation the Wildcats came back to the court and bought in from day one.
Not to say last year’s team didn’t, towards the end of the year when they made the push for the playoffs the Wildcats were a force to be reckoned with. They carried that over into this season and did not wait around till the end of the year to introduce themselves to the basketball world.
Huxton Kloesel, Jerron Fisher, Camden Morison, Colin Morison and Zach Norrell were all part of last year’s team and are ready to take the next step forward as a program. This leadership group had been and will continue to be a big part of this team’s success, especially as they venture deeper into their district schedule.
The Wildcats will have been back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 31, having taken on Bloomington for their second district game of the year.
