AUSTIN COUNTY RADIO CLUB LAUNCHES PICO BALLOON IN COLUMBUS

On Thursday, Dec. 19, Austin County Radio Club representative Remi Hutin, alongside Max Barnett, Kelly Barnett, Sara-May Barnett and John-Nathaniel Barnett launched a “Pico balloon” at the home of Gina Barnett that is set to travel around the world, transmitting signals of its whereabouts along the way. The balloon is filled with a small amount of hydrogen that allows it to float into the stratosphere and expand. The balloon could be up in the air for as long as a month or even longer, flying eastward through different countries in the Northern Hemisphere at upwards of 50 mph.
