The Weimar Ladycats secured their first district win of the season after they defeated Ganado, 4128, on their home court.
The win comes at the perfect time considering the Ladycats had a bit of a rough time at the Brazos tournament.
The Ladycats finished that tournament 2-2, losing in the championship game to La Grange. That loss was not a concerning one, La Grange usually has a really good basketball team and the Ladycats came up short but played fine for the most part.
The concerning loss was the one to Bellville, it was concerning because the Ladycats led for the entire game, were leading 15-5 after the first, and ended up losing by one. It was sloppy too, the defense was not boxing out, they lost the rebound battle, too many fouls, and offensively their passing was lackluster and caused several turnovers late.

There was a ton of emotion on the bench as the clock hit zero and was just unlike Ladycat athletics. There has never been a moment where the Ladycats were leading that late in a game and they did not close it.
Head coach Jenny Fricke put the concerns to rest because she knew it was just an off game for her squad, and she had the utmost confidence that they could bounce back.
The Ladycats bounced back in a major way against Ganado, they looked like their old selves. They were aggressive and smart, they knew when to take their shots and when to be a little patient with the ball and wait for lanes to open up.
That is a winning formula because the Ladycats won the game 41-28 and it is a really positives sign for fans of the team. Despite a bit of a rough time during the tournament last week, the Ladycats put it in the rearview mirror and came in and handled business.
With a 1-0 record in district play now the Ladycats don’t plan on slowing down with their focus shifted to their next opponent on Thursday, Dec. 26, on the road against Schulenburg.
