Cardinals still flying high in Week 4

The Columbus Cardinals collected another win to improve to 4-0 after defeating the Madisonville Mustangs on their home field on Friday, Sept. 20.

The Cardinals won the game 62-35 and stuck to their game plan that has made them successful on the offensive side of the ball.

The Cards have the perfect balance on offense with a rushing attack that can wear defenses down and a passing attack that takes the top off of the defense. Under center for the Cards Adam Schobel knew he’d have favorable matchups in the passing game and took full advantage of them.

Schobel had another great game under center for the Cards going 13/15 (87%) through the air. He racked up 275 yards and four touchdowns and connected with five different receivers to get the job done.

Camdon Pitchford also tried his hand at the quarterback position where he completed his one and only pass for 34 yards and touchdown. Pitchford was one of the five receivers to connect with Schobel Friday night as well catching seven passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns.

Braylon Fisher was another receiver to have a big game on Friday night catching three passes for 103 yards and one touchdown. Grayson Rigdon is no secret in the Cards offense at this point in the season so they knew Madisonville would be loading up their defensive front to try to slow him down.

The Cards are great at using Rigdon in multiple different ways and Friday was no different.

Despite the Mustangs defensive efforts Rigdon carried the ball 13 times for 247 yards and three touchdowns on Friday night. His longest run was for 56-yards while averaging 19 yards a carry.

The Mustangs defense had no answers for Rigdon on the ground and because of that it gave Schobel a lot more time to operate in the pocket. So much time that Rigdon was able to catch two passes for 20 yards and a touchdown to cap off his Friday night with a bang.

Rigdon also got time on the special team’s unit leading his leg for a punt that went 64 yards.

Defensively the Cards were just as good as they have been all season long. They did an excellent job of limiting chances and forced three fumbles but were unable to recover them.

With week four now behind them, the Cards now look ahead to their next matchup against Bellville Brahmas on Friday, Sept. 27, in Columbus.
