The Weimar VFW Auxiliary to Post 5875 met for its regular meeting on December 10, 2024, with 12 members present. The meeting was opened according to the ritual by President Charlene Muras.
Correspondence was read by President Charlene Muras regarding donations and membership and a thank-you note for a donation was read from Texas Veterans.
There are currently 12 annual members and 24 life members for a total of 36 members.
Dolores Lauck reported that there are 38 stockings to be delivered to homebound veterans and auxiliary members. In January hats, gloves and socks will be collected for veterans for distribution by the VA Clinic in La-Grange.
Jeanette Koenig reported that school kid art contests will be underway soon with a deadline for submission of March 31. The National Home celebrates 100 years in January and the Auxiliary will mark the occasion with a cake at the January meeting.
Monica Stock reported she sent 6 birthday cards this month. Kathy Hudec reported that the Historian’s book is up to date and reminded members to take photos of events for the book. Charlene Muras encouraged members to sign up for Action Corp Weekly (vfw.org/advocacy/ grassroots-efforts/ vfw-actioncorps-weekly).
There were 10 veterans, seven residents and four Auxiliary members present at the Men’s Coffee at Parkview on Nov. 15. Sara Bansal reported that the Auxiliary will distribute cookies to area health facilities along with relief kits for nurses in January. Jeanette Koenig reported that school kids will make valentines for hospitalized veterans in January and Read Across America Day is March 2.
The wreaths that were purchased are ready for pick up and distribution to members. Delivery of Christmas stockings to homebound veterans and Auxiliary members will be done this week.
For the Warming Our Veterans Program, members are asked to bring hats, socks, and gloves to the meeting in January to be delivered to the Veterans Clinic in LaGrange on Jan. 22, 2025. Members are asked to also bring home-baked cookies on the same day before 9:00 a.m. to the Veterans Hall Kitchen so that those can be distributed to area health facilities that day along with nurse relief kits.
For the Good of the Order, Jeanette Koenig reminded members to fly the US flag on December 20 US Space Force Day and Dec. 25, Christmas day.
The next meeting will be on Jan. 14, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at the Weimar VFW Hall kitchen.
