The Rice Raiders won the Flatonia tournament after they beat Fayetteville in overtime 76-68.

The Raiders and Fayetteville played each other in the first game of the tournament and the last game of the tournament, and both were filled to the brim with excitement.

Vs. Fayetteville, W, 74-69 In the first game of the tournament, the Raiders and the Fayetteville Lions put on a show for all the fans in attendance. It was a high-flying game with both teams’ offenses coming out of the gate hot. The high-scoring action got the crowd into the game early.

The teams went backand- forth for a bit, but the Raiders were finally able to get a stop on defense. This allowed them to start building their lead, once the lead was established the Raiders held onto it and closed out the game.

Vs. Waelder, W, 74-34 Game two saw the Raiders offense again score 74 points but their defense stepped up in this game. It’s no secret just how good the Raiders offense is, they scored 74 points in backto- back games for crying out loud, but when their defense comes to play, they are unstoppable.

The Raiders defense held Waelder to only 34 points, they forced Waelder to take several bad shots and easily won the rebounding battle against Waelder. From there their offense used their speed and athleticism to drive to the basket to extend their lead.

Vs. Fayetteville, W, 76-68 OT

Like their first matchup this was a tightly contested game that challenged the Raiders defensively.

The Lions offense knew what they were up against this time around and came after the Raiders from the opening tipoff. They played a much better offensive game and made it difficult for the Raiders to find a rhythm early on.

The Raiders defense was able to stop the Lions offense when it mattered the most in overtime while the offense continued to knock down shots at the other end of the floors resulting in a victory and a championship medal.

The Raiders’ next scheduled opponent is Industrial which is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 17, on Industrial’s home court.
