The Columbus Lady Cardinals played two games last week against Edna and Industrial where they won one and lost the other.
The results left the Lady Cards with an 11-5 record and a 1-1 record in district play.
Vs. Edna, W, 62-46
The Lady Cards started their week on their home court where they welcomed in the Edna Cowgirls.
The Lady Cards were coming off of a very strong outing at the Schulenburg tournament and were looking to keep that momentum going. The Lady Cards jumped all over the Cowgirls early in the game and established their lead early.
Their defense kept everything to outside and did not allow the Cowgirls to get inside the paint while their offense, led by Anaya Gardner, went to work.
The Lady Cards offense played with a ton of speed and beat the Cowgirls down the court in transition which led to a 16-point victory and their first district win of the year for the Lady Cards.
For their second game the Lady Cards left the nest to take on the Industrial Cobras.
@ Industrial, L, 39-21 Against Industrial the Lady Cards were handed their first loss since Nov. 26 but it was also their first district loss.
It was a low scoring affair as the Lady Cards offense was neutralized effectively for the entire game. In addition to this being their first loss in a while for the Lady Cards it was also the first time this season they were held to less than 40 points.
Up to this point in the season the lowest amount of points the Lady Cards scored was 44 points and Industrial held them to only 21. Is that something that is cause for conern, no, the Lady Cards have so much talent on their roster that they will get back on track offensively.
They ran into a really strong defensive team and got stonewalled at the basket, they also struggled to hit shots which happens some games. The Lady Cards will be just fine and will be ready to bounce back their next game.
The Lady Cards will be back on the court on Tuesday, Dec. 17, when they take on Tidehaven.
