Tis the season to give the greatest gift of all: enhanced opportunities

Through generous community donations, the Columbus Education Foundation (CEF) had a record year for funding Classroom Grants for special projects to enhance learning experiences in the classroom.

You may wonder what a classroom grant is. Teachers from all CISD campuses can apply for grants up to $1,000, as they describe a creative project they would like to implement. Many times, it is these little enhancements that give their students extra motivation and experience to enjoy their education at a higher level. CEF has received many exuberant letters of thanks from past grant recipients.

2024 recipients from Columbus Elementary include Nina Pavlicek (first grade math teacher), Kyndal Harris (Pre-K Special Education), and Jennifer Wray (third grade math). Jr. High teachers receiving grants include Jamie Burnett (seventh grade social studies) and Amanda Opermann (sixth grade science). Recipients from Columbus High School include Brittany King (Theatre Arts), Roxanne Zahradnik (AG CTE) and Jenna Leopold, (Art). 2024 classroom grants totaled $6,075. CEF is already working to double that amount for the next awards, and you can help.

These grants are such a worthy cause and make the student’s educational experience even more fulfilling. CEF also celebrated a record year in May 2024 with their scholarships for continuing education—both for trade/job training and college scholarships for CISD grads. If the spirit moves you, CEF will put your donated dollar to good work. Your donations before the end of year can qualify for a tax deduction since Columbus Education Foundation is a certified 501(c)3 non-profit corporation.

2024 was a great year for increases in opportunities. With your help 2025 could be an even bigger year affecting the future of our youth. Thanks, and God bless.
