SAS SAINTLY NEWS

Students headed back to school after the Thanksgiving break and jumped right into Homecoming festivities. On Dec. 2, only the SAS Boys B basketball team finished with a homecoming victory over Sacred Heart, but all the Saints played hard against the Halletsville teams. On Monday, Dec. 16, the SAS teams will travel to El Campo to take on St. Philip.

Advent has begun, and SAS is celebrating the season each day before classes start. After morning drop-off, students gather in the cafeteria to learn different things about Advent. Different grade levels light the Advent wreath and take turns presenting special prayers that represent the weekly themes of the season.

Advent music with bells, student artwork and topics such as “What is a Jesse Tree?” are showing the many ways we can prepare for Christ’s birth at Christmas and keep Him in our minds and hearts as we anticipate His second coming.

Congratulations to the Saint Ambassadors for winning Best Lighted Entry in the Columbus Lighted Christmas Parade! The float’s theme was “Twas the Night Before Christmas” and featured a smoking fireplace complete with stockings and Santa’s sleigh with reindeer in flight.

Last week, the 7th grade visited the historic Texas Alamo mission and museum in San Antonio. Students viewed artifacts and learned about the famous battle that had all of Texas remembering the Alamo! Yesterday, the 8th grade class went underground to experience the beauty and wonder of the largest cave in Texas at Natural Bridge Caverns in New Braunfels. Students marveled at the delicate formations that were created from dripping water over thousands of years.

Recent Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) that have volunteered around campus are Keith McCree, Travis Busselman and Brian Fitzgerald. SAS appreciates their time and willingness to jump right in and take part in a day in the life at SAS! The students love seeing the big men on campus!

Upcoming events: Catholic Life Insurance Raffle ticket sales until Jan. 24, SAS welcomes all to attend Children’s Mass on Fridays at 8:15 a.m.

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you this sign: the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel.” [ISAIAH 7:14]
