COLORADO COUNTY
Colorado County commissioners accepted a bid at their recent meeting by a construction company to complete interior work at Colorado County EMS Station No. 1 this past Monday, Nov. 25.
The construction company at hand, Derek Bettis Construction, would be completing the work at the EMS station, which would include remodeling the bathroom, floor tiles and fixing an existing water leak.
Colorado County Judge Ty Prause stated how people had seen the buildings current condition for the better part of a year when looking at county offices and spaces and questioned if there were any other comments regarding the quote and bid.
“Everybody has seen the building and the issues and situation about a year, a year and a half ago,” said Prause.
Colorado County EMS Chief Michael Furrh expressed to commissioners how it would be more worthwhile to do a little more surveying for the insulation work needing to be done as well as the countertops.
“This is the most pressing part of all these jobs,” said Furrh. “I think it’s going to be better for us, for me, to go out and look a little bit more into the insulation and the countertop portion of those bids. I feel that putting in a little bit more time and effort is probably going to pay off more.”
Precinct 2 Commissioner Ryan Brandt highlighted that when he and Furrh were looking at the aforementioned area, the shower leaked, causing the ground to break up and tile cracking.
“The shower leaked,” said Brandt. “That’s what it looked like when Michael and I were going through it. The ground gave up and the tile cracked. The shower crack just migrated and found its way over the X number of times. Those were the visible signs of it.”
Furrh emphasized to commissioners how the bid by Derek Bettis Construction would not only take care of the leak, but would take care of remodeling, the bathroom and any issues with the floors.
“It’s pretty visible now with those tiles,” said Furrh. “When you walk in from the base side into the day room, just the amount of water that is leaking. That’s why I think that’s the other thing about getting this bid and moving forward is this is the most pressing of all the issues that we’ve really got to take care of.”
An application was also accepted by commissioners submitted by an irrigation company to install a sewer line in the county right-of-way off 1046 Yett Road in Eagle Lake.
Precinct 4 Commissioner Darrell Gertson, the commissioner presiding over Eagle Lake, move to approve the application by the S&S Irrigation Inc., the company at hand, noting that everything was in place for the application approval and how the company have done good work in the past.
“They always do a good job of taking care of the right of way,” said Gertson.
Commissioners additionally approved a contract and agreement for the detention of juvenile offenders between San Patricio County and Colorado County, effective from Jan. 1, 2025, to Dec. 31, 2025.
The next commissioners court meeting will be held on Monday, Dec. 9.
