The Weimar Wildcats season came to an end the Friday after they were defeated 56-28 by the Mason Punchers.

The Wildcats had a very successful season with a 7-5 overall and a 5-1 district and ended the year competing for the Area Championship.

The game started with the Wildcats opening the scoring on their first drive of the game. That brought all of the Weimar fans that made the trip all the way to Georgetown to their feet.

Bundled up in blankets, jackets and mittens to counter the cold the Wildcat faithful made sure their presence was felt in the game. The lead for the Wildcats was short lived with the Punchers responding with a score of their own.

With the game tied, the Wildcats were forced to punt the ball back to the Punchers on their next offensive possession. That allowed the Punchers to take the lead back 14-7.

Following the same theme the Wildcats quickly responded and tied the game up at 14-14.

This back-and-forth on the score board between the two teams did not last too long, as they came went along the Punchers’ continued to operate effectively. The Punchers extended their lead to 2814 and the Wildcats were never able to come back and tie the game up.

Several times throughout the second half the Wildcats cut the Punchers lead down to only one score. But the Punchers offense responded every time the Wildcats scored and ensured they always had a two-score cushion between them and the Wildcats.

The Wildcats rushing attack found the endzone twice in Friday’s game while they were able to find the endzone two more times through the air. Dereon Johnson and Zack Norrell both found the endzone on the ground.

The duo combined for 27 carries, 62 yards and two touchdowns but for the first time this season the Wildcats had more passing yards than rushing yards. Huxton Kloesel had his best game under center for the Wildcats, he completed seven of his 12 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown.

While Kloesel had a great night Jerron Fisher also had a chance to throw the ball and he completed his one pass for 67 yards and a touchdown. The two recipients of these touchdowns were Norell and Andrew Montgomery.

This duo combined for five catches, 155 yards and two touchdowns to close out the season with a strong performance.

The Wildcats have a ton of positives to build on heading into the off season and have plenty of players returning that will be ready to step up and Win the Area Championship next year.
