Raiders basketball: what to expect

The Rice Raiders have closed the book on the 2024 football season and now enter basketball season with a chip on their shoulder.

The Raiders were an exciting team to watch last season on the basketball court where they posted an overall record of 25-11.

They were also one of the best teams in the district with a record of 10-3 last season. They were a younger team last season with most of the players being juniors on the squad.

The Second All-District team saw only one Lady Raider selected as well and that was Alejandra Palacios. One of the best servers in the district Palacios brought energy and excitement to games.

Palacios dove around the court to keep the point alive and then popped back up and slammed down a spike for a point. She was played well on the opposite side of the net from Hoelscher and the duo made sure they capitalized on every opportunity they got.

Raelee Nelson, Ava Torres, Taylor Rohan, Breelyn Freeman and Klair Hailey were all listed as Honorable Mentions for the All-District team for the Lady Raiders.

Every single one of them took major steps in their development as volleyball players. They showed up to every single game willing to shoulder any and all works loads handed to them.

They put the team first at all times this season and as they worked through their schedule they just got better and better every game. With these five being taking that step in their development the Lady Raiders have plenty to look forward to next fall when they return to the volleyball court.
