The Columbus Lady Cardinals season came to an end last week but the recognition for their outstanding play this season did not.
This past week the Lady Cards nine players were selected to be a part of the All-District Team this season.
In addition to that, two Lady Cards won individual awards, the MVP and the Defensive Player of the Year. Taylor Morrow was selected as the district MVP, not only was she a talented and valued asset for the Lady Cards this season but she was also a fantastic leader.
She prioritized positivity and support for her teammates, making her truly the most valuable player to her team.
Next was Caylie Neisner who won the DPOY. The thing with Neisner is that she is the smallest player on the court in most games and yet is the most productive. She sacrificed life and limb to get the point alive for her team and to top it all off she recorded her 1,000th dig before her senior season.
Like Morrow, Neisner took a great deal of pride in her leadership role and made sure to bring her teammates with her on the road to greatness.
The first team selection for the All-District team included three Lady Cards, Gracie Schobel, Riley Kainer and Harper Gerik. These three took major steps in their development as players this season.
Schobel built off a strong campaign last season and put together a very productive season as an outside hitter. Kainer was hands down one of if not the best setter in the district, she recorded 20 or more assists several times this season and solidified her spot on the roster moving forward.
Gerik burst onto the scene wearing the number 5 last worn by Ally Tribe. She showed flashes of how Tribe played with a knack for scoring and a very high IQ. She read the court better than anyone and because of that earned a spot on the first All-District team.
The second All-District team saw three more Lady Cards selected, Mary Fitzgerald, Kyndal Kuhn and Abigail Fisher with Logan Glueck being listed as an honorable mention.
These four ladies were the glue that helped keep everything together, they did a lot of grunt work for this team to be successful. They understood their job and executed it to the best of their ability, they never complained and just went to work, and they are a part of the All-District team for their efforts.
The Lady Cards have a ton to look forward to next season and fans are eager to see them back in action next fall.
