County teams in action at Cardinal Relays

COLUMBUS- Every Colorado County varsity trackand- field team was in attendance for a close-to-home competition. Each team will likely be looking to improve upon their results after a relatively difficult day across the board. COLUMBUS- Every Colorado County varsity trackand- field team was in attendance for a close-to-home competition. Each team will likely be looking to improve upon their results after a relatively difficult day across the board. However, there were some standout performances as the athletes continue to get into the rhythm of meet season.

Columbus

The Lady Cards had the peak performance of any Colorado County team as they took the lone top-three placement of the day. They picked up a number of medalists to help their score and had success in the relay races as well. Columbus had their strongest outing in the long jump competition where they swept the medal positions. Taylor Morrow took the first-place spot, followed by Kloee Woytek and Scarlett Mc-Clelland who claimed the silver and bronze medals respectively. Morrow went on to have a solid day with another medal in the triple jump after a second-place finish. She also contributed to a silver medal finish by the 4X100m relay race. Her teammates in that race, McClelland, TiYana Celestine and Mariah Woods, teamed up with Woytek in the 4X200m relay and went on to take second place once again. McClelland and Woods finished in second and third place respectively in the 100m sprint. Chloe Ross and Kaylea Foster took on the longer distance races as the two claimed third and fourth place respectively in the 3200m run. They flipped their placements in the 1600m as Foster finished in fourth and Ross took fifth. Woytek and Mc-Clelland added two more top-five finishes with a fourth and a fifth-place finish respectively in the 200m dash.

The Cards got all of their team points from the track events in this meet. Cory Lewis had the top performance for the boys, taking second place in both hurdle races with just milliseconds separating him and the gold medalist in the longer distance hurdles. Josafat Galvan added points to the team with a bronze medal in the 1600m run and a fifth-place finish in the 3200m race. The relay team of Devin Woods, Jayden Dillard, Xavier Woods and Rafael Gonzales had a topfive finish with fifth in the 4X100m relay.

Rice

The Lady Raiders had just one competitor representing for their team which was reflected in their final team score. Tatianna Mills was the lone athlete for the Lady Raiders, but she still finished with a solid day after a fifth-place finish in the discus throw.

The Raiders had the strongest day for the boys as they claimed fourth place as a team and the only top-five team placement from the county. Jon Woods had a nice day for Rice, taking the silver in the triple jump and another top-five placement in the high jump. The Raiders had a number of athletes finish with bronze medals as well. Jace Upson secured the bronze in both distances for hurdles. Eric Toliver finished in third place for the 100m dash, and Kejun Wilson took third in the 400m and 3200m races. Following directly behind Wilson was Woods in the 400m and Payton Engelbrecht in the 3200m as they took fourth place in their respective races. Tamarion Turner took fifth place in the 100m dash and was part of a relay team that took third place in the 4X200m and fourth place in the 4X100m relays. The bronze medal team was made up of Turner, Robert Bennett, Isaiah Castillo and Tiedric Jenkins. All but Bennett competed in the 4X100m as well, but Toliver filled in the fourth spot for the fourth-place finishing relay team.

Weimar

The Weimar Ladycats also had limited participation as they competed in just four events of the day. Katherina Chaloupka had the high-point performance with a gold medal in the pole vault competition, beating the next-best opponent by a foot. Rylee Noska just missed on a topfive finish in the high jump, and the relay team of Kim Hinze, Olivia Cabrera, Neorri Johnson and Da’Dreanna Granger also placed sixth in both the 4X100m and the 4X200m.

The Weimar boys sent just Dakota Ford and Zack Norrell to represent for the Wildcats. They each were able to secure points for the team as Ford claimed fourth place and Norrell claimed sixth in the 110m hurdles. Ford followed with another top-five placement in the 300m hurdles, finishing in fifth place.
