Junior High Lady Cards finish in top five at El Campo

The Junior High Lady Cards of Columbus had a strong performance at the El Campo-hosted track meet on Tuesday, March 7. They had several athletes that took high placements as many finished in the top five of their respective events. The seventh grade Lady Cards finished in third place while the eighth graders took the fourth-place spot.

For the seventh graders, they found a lot of success in the relay races and the field events. The relay team of Demi Roecker, Kaylea McCarthy, Sloan Youens and Lexi Kulhanek placed first in the 4X200m relay race. Kulhanek and Youens teamed up with Harper Gerik and Brisa Morales to take second in the 4X400 relay. Youens went on to bring a few gold medals home from the field events as well with first place in both the discus and shot put throw. Kulhanek took second in the long jump competition. 

The eighth grade Lady Cards were led by Candee Pitchford and Heidi Brown who claimed the only gold medals for the squad. Brown finished first in the shot put throw while Pitchford secured the victory in the 200m dash. Faith Cleveland secured the team's only silver medal in the 100m sprint. The relay team of Cleveland, Pitchford, Peyton Drozd and Riley Kainer claimed the bronze in both the 4X100m race and the 4X200m relay. Edith Nieto also added a third-place finish with her performance in the long distance 1600m run.

The Junior High Lady Cards will compete again on Tuesday, March 21 at Rice High School.
