The Rice Lady Raiders dropped to 0-2 after they were defeated by Brazos on Tuesday, Nov. 12, on their home court.
The Lady Raiders were defeated by a score of 31-24 and even though they are 0-2 things are not as bad as they seem.
For starters they only lost by seven points, that’s a couple baskets away from making things interesting. The Lady Raiders have struggled so far this season when it comes to knocking shots down, but it’s still early and that will sort itself out.
They have plenty of talent to get things back on track and head coach Reagan Beal has the upmost confidence in his team to fix things. They also played a much stronger game on offense which sounds crazy but just look at the numbers.
In their first game against El Campo the Lady Raiders scored only 19 points and the offense looked out of sorts. Against Brazos, they bumped their final score by five points, which does not seem like a lot, but the offense looked a little more structured and because of that, they scored more points.
Offensively the Lady Raiders are going to be just fine, they need a little more time to settle into the season and their roles within the offense. That’s what the pre-district schedule is for, and the Lady Raiders are taking advantage of this time.
Defensively they played a much better game on Tuesday despite the loss. They bounced back in a big way on the defensive side after they gave up 62 points to El Campo in the season opener.
They held Brazos to 31 points and like the offense every player looked a bit more comfortable and their play as a whole elevated. So, while the record looks a little rough at first glance, it’s only been two games, these ladies are young but talented basketball players, give them a little more time and they will be finding themselves in the win column soon enough.
The Lady Raiders will be back in action Monday, Nov. 25, when they take on Lousie on their home court.
