A View Of Columbus Through Rose-Colored Glasses
This article is dedicated to acknowledging examples of positives that express the community spirit of Columbus — our town.
One day recently I had a chance to sit for a while at the corner of Milam & Spring. I had a clear view of the buildings on the west side of Milam. I noticed the lovely designs at the top of the buildings.
All of a sudden, I was in a big daydream. I could see the upper parts of the buildings painted. The building first noted was Keyser’s market. It has been painted white and black. I could imagine so clearly each of those decorative tops being painted. It seems to me people would come to see such a downtown. Needless to say, this is a daydream.
I hope you expect more than one daydream. How about this... the confederate museum pressure washed and if necessary, it could be painted. Is that a difficult chore or could it be a goodwill project? I’m of course thinking Rotary, Lions, PTA, Firemen? - that’s just a daydream.
Now let’s change gears. Let’s talk about a Cardinal football player who might have had a daydream that he could have been chosen by channel 11 as an MVP. He might have even daydreamed that he would receive his very own bobblehead, no daydream – Our quarterback, Adam Schobel, was named channel 11 MVP and was given his own bobblehead.
Adam was interviewed and was just as cool as when he completes a 50 yard pass. When asked a reason for his talent and his years of success, his comment was not about DAYDREAMS. His answer was “My work ethic”.
He has an outstanding family history with his dad, uncle, and cousin having enjoyed time in the NFL. So, this article has moved from daydreams to bobbleheads. Our town has the reality of two extraordinary teams and superb coaching staffs for boys varsity football and girls varsity volleyball. GO BIG RED!
