The Columbus Lady Cards are once again heading back to the third round after they won the Area Championship.

The Lady Cards faced Karnes City and Randolph in the first two rounds and won both of their games in three and five sets respectively.

Vs. Karnes City, W, 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-13) The first round for the Lady Cards was business as usual as they defeated Karnes City in three straight sets.

Taylor Morrow had a fantastic night for the Lady Cards as she recorded 13 kills in the match against Karnes City. She did not work alone though as she had two partners in crime that also made the most of their opportunities every time they attacked the net.

Gracie Schobel and Harper Gerik each recorded nine kills in the victory, but while these three led the way in scoring two Lady Cards were racking up assists. Riley Kainer and Abigail Fisher combined for 42 assists as the Lady Cards cruised to a Bi-District Championship.

The Lady Cards shifted their focus to the Area match against Randolph, while the Bi-District Championship took only three sets, and the Lady Cards faced little to no adversity. The Area Championship match was the complete opposite.

Vs. Randolph, W, 3-2 (31 33, 24-26, 25-23, 25-15, 15-8) The Lady Cards found themselves in a 2-0 hole to start the game. Randolph came out the gate hot, but the Lady Cards were ready for a battle in the first set.

Randolph came away with a win in the first set even though they needed 33 points as opposed to the standard 25. The Lady Cards were with them every step of the way and kept the set close but ultimately fell 33-31.

By the end of the second set, which saw Randolph needing extra points to win again, the Lady Cards stayed calm. It was almost as if they knew things were going to be fine, but they had to take the rest of the match one set at a time.

The third set saw the Lady Cards’ defense get back on track, they did just enough and held Randolph to 23 points and secured their first set win of the match.

They then went on to dominate the fourth set 25-15 setting up the fifth and final set. The Lady Cards won the fifth set that was greeted with an eruption of cheers from the Lady Cards fans in attendance and the players on the court.

The Lady Cards are heading back to round three where they will be taking on the West Oso bears on Monday, Nov. 11.

Caylie Neisner has 31 digs through two rounds of playoffs.
