LADY RAIDERS BASKETBALL
The Rice Lady Raiders got their first taste of game action this season when they traveled to El Campo on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
The Lady Raiders learned a lot about themselves and were able to get a good feel on what they need to work on heading into the season.
The Lady Raiders have put a big emphasis on improvement this season and not so much stock in results. Obviously, every game they play they are going to be trying to win, but there are going to be some growing pains.
The Lady Raiders are a young team so experience is going to be valuable wherever they can get it. Even though they are a young team they still have a good bit of talent on their roster so they are confident that they will surprise a few teams this season.
In the game against El Campo the Lady Raiders did an excellent job rebounding. They boxed out and denied El Campo from a lot of second chance points.
Defensively though the Lady Raiders struggled on the perimeter and gave up a couple of big three points shots. Even when making these mistakes the Lady Raiders accepted the criticism from their coaches and each other well.
Being able to take criticism well is something every athlete has to learn and with the Lady Raiders being a young team the fact that they have learned that skill already is impressive. The Lady Raiders accepted all the critiques and smiled the entire game despite the scoreboard showing a not so savory score.
The Lady Raiders have a firm grasp of this skill already and it is largely thanks to the juniors on their team. There is a hand full of juniors on the Lady Raiders roster this season and every single one of them is looking to take the next step in their development as a player and the best way to do that is by accepting criticism.
The Lady Raiders are ready to jump into the season and will be ready to hit the ground running on Tuesday, Nov. 12, against Brazos.
