WEIMAR WILDCATS 56, KENEDY LIONS 21
The Weimar Wildcats closed out the 2024 regular season with a 5621 win over Kenedy on Friday, Nov. 8.
With a victory in hand, the Wildcats punched their ticket to the playoffs, they finished the year with only one loss during their district schedule.
The past couple of weeks the Wildcats have been playing clean and effective football. Very few penalties called against them and on both sides of the ball they have been executing their game plan to perfection.
In the game of football, the defense’s main job is to prevent the opponent from advancing down the field and scoring. The best way to do that is top get off the field when they can.
Third down is a very important down in the eyes of the defense because they can give their offense possession if they get a stop. The Wildcats’ defense over these past two or three district games have lived for their opportunities to shut down an offense on their down.
The Wildcats’ defensive line deserved a ton of credit for their win on Friday because they were able to break through the Kenedy offensive line and recorded several tackles for loss.
That type of play gave their offense plenty of chances and with those chances, they scored 56 points. The Wildcats ran the football down Kenedy’s throat with a total of 501 yards and eight touchdowns. Jerron Fisher recorded over 200 yards on the ground for the Wildcats and was the top rusher in the game. With only 10 carries Fisher ran for 211 yards and three touchdowns, he had a great night carrying the football but one of his teammates also had a great night for the Wildcats.
Zack Norrell also carried the ball 10 times Friday night. He ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns.
Derreon Johnson and Ty Chmelik were big contributors to the Wildcats rushing attack as well. The duo combined for 14 carries and 114 yards and three touchdowns.
The Wildcats now set their sights on their first-round matchup against Santa Maria, the game will take place at Odem High School on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m.
