Last Friday, Nov. 8, St. Anthony School hosted a Veteran’s Day Mass and reception honoring all men and women that served in our country’s military. SAS welcomed relatives, friends, and community members that have proudly served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The program, put on by the 6th grade, included Veteran recognitions, history of The Unknown Soldier, and everyone joining together to sing “Semper Paratus”, “Anchors Aweigh”, “The Wild Blue Yonder”, “The Marines’ Hymn”, and “The Army Goes Rolling Along”.

Each of these songs holds a special meaning to those (and their families) who have served the United States. Afterward, the Veterans and their families were invited to the cafeteria to share their stories over coffee and breakfast treats provided by the 7th grade. SAS appreciates every Veteran who has given themselves so that we may enjoy the freedoms of our great country.

Each week, Saints look forward to Thursday afternoons for their opportunity to do something a bit different than their usual academics.

Last week, the cooking class made Mountain Dew Baked Apple Dumplings and the Crafts/Sewing students poured Blueberry Muffin candles.

A new elective that some junior high students are participating in this quarter is Debate. Coach Sarah Moore is guiding participants in the art of two debaters arguing for and against topics such as “Electric Vehicles vs. Gas-powered Vehicles” and “Should Math be a Class?”.

The SAS Jr. High Ambassadors are currently selling Munchoes caramel apples to raise funds for their elective class materials, along with various campus needs.

The apples come in numerous fun and tasty flavors (including some decorated for Christmas) and will keep for 21 days in the fridge. If you would like to purchase some, contact your favorite Ambassador. Sales end on Nov. 20 and apples will be delivered on Dec. 5.

Basketball season is about to be in full swing with games tomorrow, Nov. 14 at Our Lady of Victoria and on Monday, Nov. 18 at home. Come out and support our SAS ballers.

Upcoming events: Advisory Council meeting Nov. 18 at 5pm. SAS welcomes all to attend Children’s Mass on Fridays at 8:15 a.m.

“Look to the LORD in his strength; seek to serve him constantly.” [1CHRON 16:11]
