Donald J. Trump will be back in office for a second term as the 47th president of the United States after winning the presidential election early Wednesday morning, claiming both the electoral college and popular vote.
A whirlwind of an election cycle, which saw two assassination attempts made at Trump’s life, has finally drawn a conclusion, with the soon to be president securing 277 electoral college votes, and 71,141,182 Americans (51%) placing their faith in his ability to run the country once more.
Current vice-president Kamala D. Harris received 47.5% of the popular vote with 66,209,169 votes, receiving 224 electoral votes.
Trump will be sworn into office next year on Monday, Jan. 20.
His running mate and soon to be vice-president JD Vance will become the second-youngest vice president in American history.
Trump, at 78, will become the oldest president to ever be elected, beating out Joe Biden who was elected in 2020 at the age of 77.
