VOLLEYBALL DISTRICT CHAMPIONS
The Columbus Lady Cardinals played 14 games in their district schedule, and they won all 14 of those games to claim the District Championship.
Thier 14th district win came over Palacios on Tuesday, Oct. 29, where they were able to celebrate their District Championship in their home court.
The big story coming out of the Lady Cards win over Palacios was their defense’s ability to limit scoring chances. Palacios scored only 21 points in the entire match while the Lady Cards high flying offense did what they do best.
The first set saw the Lady Cards jump in the driver’s seat and put the gas pedal to the floor. They jumped all over Palacios to start the game and imposed their will early on in the game.
There was no answer for the trio of Taylor Morrow, Gracie Schobel and Harper Gerik, they had a field day against the Palacios defense. They were not the only ones making plays for the Lady Cards offense though as Madison Glueck, Kyndal Kuhn and Riley Kainer all got in on the fun as well.
The Lady Cards were able to win the first set with a score of 25-6 and they fed off of that momentum in the second set. They came out with the same aggression and offensive attack and the Lady Cards went up two sets to none with a score of 25-7.
In the third set, the Lady Cards closed it out 25-8 to complete the sweep. Kainer was an extremely vital piece in this game because while she recorded three kills in the match, she also recorded 21 setter assists. Glueck also had a great day with seven kills of her own, but it was Schobel who led the way with 12 kills against Palacios.
The Lady Cards are back in the playoffs where they will be looking to capture the State Championship that has eluded them for the past couple of years.
Their playoff journey will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Cuero High School where they will take on Karnes City with the opening serve scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
