The Rice Lady Raiders finished their season on the road against the Edna Cowgirls on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

The Lady Raiders were looking to end the season on a high note and pick up their second district win of the year but the Cowgirls had other plans.

The match started with the Lady Raiders playing with a little bit of confidence. They were moving well and playing with a little more urgency knowing this was the last time they were going to be on the court togther as a team.

The Cowgirls were able to win the first set though by a score of 2518, the Lady Raiders were down but there was still a lot of volleyball left to play. Going into the second set the Lady Raiders needed to respond and respond in a big way.

The only response that would have been acceptable in this scenario was a set win to give themselves a little bit of life and get some energy on the bench and on the court.

The Cowgirls came out ready for anything that the Lady Raiders could possibly throw at them. On defense they guarded the net well and on offense they took advantage of almost every opportunity that they were given.

The Lady Raiders had no response to the Cowgirls attack and dropped the second set with a score of 25-12. In between the second and third set Lady Raiders Head Coach Daivd Leist spoke with his team and whatever he said to them worked because the Lady Raiders came out with a fire that has not been seen from them since tournament play.

With this potentially being their last set of the season, the Lady Raiders came out swinging. They were communicating more and every point mattered to them to the point where they pushed the Cowgirls to score almost 30 points just to win the match.

The Lady Raiders kept things close in the final set scoring a total of 27 points, but the Cowgirls offense was still buzzing around out there, and they scored 29 points to end the Lady Raiders season with a 29-27 loss.

The Lady Raiders volleyball season has come to an end but with plenty of young talent in the pipeline they will be looking to take another step next season.
