The Weimar Ladycats were crowned the Co-District Champions this season after dominating their district schedule.

The Ladycats have been one of the more underrated teams in volleyball this season but now all the doubters have to refer to them as District Champs.

Watching the Ladycats there was no doubt that they were a playoff team and all they did all season long was block out the noise, both good and bad, and just played their game. They are a cohesive unit that trust one another and understand they it is going to take all of them if they want to accomplish everything they want to accomplish.

They checked off a big accomplishment by winning the District Championship and now set their sights on the playoffs. Before getting they’re though the Ladycats decided that it would be in their best interest to play in a warmup game and El Campo was willing to play one as well.

It was not too far of a drive and both teams saw the benefit of playing one more game before starting their playoff journey. The match did not affect either team record but watching the game, it seemed like the State Championship was on the line.

The intensity was raised to a whole other level as the fans packed the building. The match started with the Ladycats falling behind El Campo early int he set.

Early leads have never kept the Ladycats down so far this season though and they gritted their teeth and came back to win the first set 25-21. The second set saw the Ladycats defense make some huge plays late while their offense continued to pour on points.

The Ladycats won the second set with a score of 25-23 setting up the third and final set. The Ladycats continued to fly around the court while racking up points and came away with the win, 25-15, in the third set.

The game did not necessarily matter according to the history books, but these teams treated it like it was a real playoff game. It was a positive sign for Ladycats Head Coach Amanda Machicek who is looking to go on a deep run with her team.

The Ladycats playoff journey begins on Mon. Nov. 4, at St. Joseph’s High School in Victoria where they will be taking on Pettus, with the opening serve scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
