The Columbus Lady Cards picked up their 12th and 13th win in district play this week to maintain a perfect record.
The Lady Cards played two road games this past week and only lost one set between the two games.
@ Hallettsville, 3-1, W (21-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-17) The Lady Cards started their week against a familiar foe in the Hallettsville Lady Brahmas. They started the game a little bit slow out the gate and ended up losing the first set.
It proved to be exactly what the Lady Cards needed though because they came into the second set with a chip on their shoulder. The Lady Cards evened things up quickly after winning the second set and continued that type of play in the third and fourth set.
Gracie Schobel. Harper Gerik and Taylor Morrow had great games on the offensive side of the ball. Schobel and Gerik each had 14 kills in the contest while Morrow had 11 kills herself.
Riley Kainer racked up 23 assists along with Abigail Fisher who had 11 assists. On the defensive side of the ball Morrow had 13 digs while Caylie Neisner had 12 digs and Kainer had 11 digs.
This set them up to continue to play at a high level when they traveled to Edna for their next game against the Cowgirls.
@ Edna, 3-0, W (25-14, 25-21, 25-18)
The Lady Cards came into their second district game of the week looking to make a statement and did they ever make a statement.
Winning the match in three straight sets the Lady Cards improved to 13-0 in district play and again received great play from every player that touched the court. Schobel and Morrow recorded 10 and nine kills respectively while Kyndal Kuhn made her impact felt on the game by getting five kills.
Kainer and Fisher again led the way with assists as they combined for 23 assists and on defense Kainer along with Mary Fitzgerld each recorded nine digs each while Neisner recorded seven of her own.
The Lady Cards still have a few more games on their schedule but their playoff spot is locked up and can now focus on claiming yet another district championship.
