TIDEHAVEN TIGERS 49, RICE RAIDERS 33
The Rice Raiders took on the Tidehaven Tigers on Friday, Oct. 25, where they came up just short with a score of 49-33 in favor of the Tigers.
The Raiders looked a little out of sorts on both sides of the ball, especially on the offensive side where they had six drops and two interceptions to their name.
Six drops on offense were the most glaring issue that plagued the Raiders on Friday night. It is difficult to win football games at any level, but it becomes even harder when receivers are dropping passes.
Especially when there is a sophomore under center the Raiders need their receivers to step up and make plays this season. Granted the offensive line must also step up as well and give Kordae Johnson just a little bit more time in the pocket, he can make the right throws but needs time to get them off.
The Raiders offense also struggled in the run game on Friday as Tidehaven’s front had a field day against the Raiders offensive line. The Raiders racked up only 130 yards on Friday night with RJ Myers being the lone running back to find the endzone.
Defensively the Raiders had a rough night facing shirt fields because of turnovers and lack of offensive production. The Raiders defensive front started out strong and made a couple of big plays early in the game.
The Raiders’ defense played well but found themselves on the field more often as the game went on. This workload wore them down quickly and Tidehaven took full advantage of it to the tune of 49 points.
The Raiders know that they have to come out sharper next week, they are still in the playoff race but need to find their way back into the win column to give themselves a fair shot of locking up a playoff spot.
The Raiders will be back in action next week taking on Van Vleck looking to pick up a win after back-toback losses.
