WEIMAR WILDCATS 46, DANBURY PANTHERS 0

The Weimar Wildcats shutout the Danbury Panthers 46-0 on Friday, Oct. 25, which was also head coach Wade Griffin’s 100th career win as the head football coach.

The Wildcats came into the game ready to build off of last week’s win and they hit the ground running in the opening drive.

The Wildcats marched all the way down the field to start the game and were able to punch the ball into the endzone to go up 7-0. Derreon Johnson was the first Wildcat to find the endzone by bullying his way into across the goal line.

The Wildcat’s defense started their first drive in a big way as well by getting a ton of penetration at the line of scrimmage. They overwhelmed the Danbury quarterback and offensive line and completely stuffed the run game on their first drive, and it was a theme that continued throughout the game.

When the offense got the ball back, they continued to run the football effectively and even caught Danbury sleeping by mixing in a couple of passing plays. Huxton Kloesel used play action plays to his advantage and picked up large chunks of yards against Danbury.

Johnson was able to find the endzone again in the first half, Jerron Fisher joined Johnson in the endzone scoring two touchdowns of his own. With a 32-0 lead at halftime the Wildcats came out ready to put the game to bed with strong defensive play.

Being down so much on the scoreboard the Panthers needed to move the ball quickly down the field and looked to their passing attack to get them back in the game. The Panthers were able to pick up a couple of chunk yardage plays and looked like they were building some momentum.

The Wildcats responded to this challenge though by showcasing their open field tackling ability. Every pass that was caught by the Panthers was immediately swarmed by three or four purple helmets and prevented a lot of first downs because of it.

The Wildcats pick up another much-needed district win and keep themselves alive in the playoff race.

The Wildcats will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 1, where they will be back on their home field to take on Flatonia in another highly anticipated district matchup.
