2024 Balloting begins

Early voting on until Nov. 1

The November General Election countdown is on.

Early voting started this past Monday, Oct. 21st and runs until Friday, Nov. 1st.

The state of Texas has mandated 12 consecutive days of early voting with 12hour days. There are three early voting locations in Colorado County to serve residents.

Early voting is considered countywide voting, with access available to registered voters at any early voting locations.

Election Day voting in Colorado County is still precinct specific and voters must go to their assigned polling location. How do you know where to go on election day?

There is a spot on your voter registration card that identifies your voting precinct. If you are unsure, you can always call the Colorado County Election Office, and someone will assist you.

Please remember you are welcome to bring printed copies of the sample ballots, voters, guides, newspapers, or any other paper notes with you to the polling locations, but phones are not permitted.

There is no longer straight party voting in Texas. Every race, every candidate is an individual selection. Write-in candidates by Texas law must be certified and declared and selected from a list posted in the polling location.

All the local county races are unopposed. Constables from precincts 1, 2, 3, and 4 are all up for re-election. Commissioners for precincts 1 and 3 will be elected for a four-year term. Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace will be elected for an unexpired term. Countywide positions on the ballot are County Attorney, Sheriff, and County Tax Assessor- Collector.

There are 18 state judicial positions on the ballot; two are in the 25th Judicial District that is held in Colorado County.

The State Representative District 85, Stan Kitzman is uncontested.

District 17 State Senator is a contested race between Joan Huffman (incumbent) and Kathy Cheng.

District 10 State Board of Education is a contested race between Tom Maynard (incumbent) and Raquel Ortiz. The State Railroad Commissioner has four candidates plus a write-in option.

The federal races are highly contentious races across the state and nation, with these races being watched closely by other media sources.
